Sacramento's Gold Rush Days!

"More than 200 tons of dirt will be dumped on the streets of Old Sacramento as the annual festival "turns back the clock," transforming Sacramento's historic district into a scene straight out of the 1850s. Costumed re-enactors, Wild West gun fights, musicians playing period instruments, and many aspects of life during the Gold Rush will be highlighted during the four-day event." That's what the ad said, and they were right!! Nicole heard about it in her history class, and she gets extra credit for going, so we put on our boots, and spent Labor day morning exploring a whole new old town!!

There were several little shops selling old time
clothes, hats, toys, and other fun stuff!

Getting ready to fire the canon!

They kept telling us to be sure and cover our
ears so I was thinking it was going to be super
loud and scare the kids...

but it wasn't too bad, and the kids just thought it was fun
with all the clapping and cheering going on!!

This man told us all about how lovely life was back then...
kinda surprising anybody made it through life with so
much that could kill you!!

This looked like fun!

A full on band for our listening pleasure!

We sampled some of these nice ladies dutch oven biscuits!

I got a parasol for me and Chloe!

Lots of people dressed up!

Cars weren't allowed down town, but you could
take a ride on this stagecoach or any number of
carriages that were rambling around the streets!

Watch out for the cavalry, though!

Fun times at Gold Rush Days!

We want to go again next year when we have more time!!

  2. wow- this is totally up my alley! i'm so intrigued. i totally wish i had a time machine so i could go back to all these random eras & get a feel for life back in 'the good ole days' but hey- this is a close second (not to mention more realistic!) as far as ways to travel back in time are concerned. you & nicole & eli are so cute in your cowboy gear! & the parasol & bonnets!
